Ohio medical marijuana regulators have loosened several proposed restrictions
April 5, 2017WILMINGTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A local company announced plans to open a medical marijuana facility in Wilmington Wednesday. CannAscend Ohio, headed by Jimmy Gould, Ambassador Bill Brisben and Ian James, plans to apply for one of 12 of the state’s Level I cultivation facility licenses which would allow the company to build a 25,000 square foot medical cannabis growing facility.
After securing a license, CannAscend plans to bring additional jobs and opportunities to the area and will request the right to expand its facility. The company also plans to use the 19.2-acre campus to build a research facility and will apply for a product manufacturing license to bring additional jobs and tax revenue to the area.
CannAscend Ohio, LLC said in a press release they plan to build a medical cannabis facility on land currently owned by the Wilmington Community Improvement Corporation (CIC). The proposed facility will be built on a 19.2-acre lot on Davids Drive near the Wilmington Air Park pending state licensing of the group’s application to grow medical cannabis, which was legalized in 2016.
At the intersection of Fyfe Avenue and Davids Drive in Wilmington a vacant lot could soon be a place for pot. Officials are thinking of building a campus there and that campus should create between 220-300 jobs over the next six years. The group planning the marijuana facility should find out later in 2017, if it gets a license. The first crops would be ready for cultivation around June 2018.
